  1. 1

    What is religious freedom?

    Model answer

Religious freedom is the right to believe, practise and change one's religion, or to have none. Article 18 of the Universal Declaration protects it.

  2. 2

What does paragraph 1738 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church teach about freedom?

    Model answer

Paragraph 1738 teaches that every person, made in God's image, has the natural right to be recognised as free and responsible. Freedom in moral and religious matters comes from human dignity.

  3. 3

What does paragraph 1747 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church add about freedom?

    Model answer

Paragraph 1747 states that the right to freedom in religious and moral matters is required by human dignity. Freedom does not mean a right to say or do anything at all.

  4. 4

Why do Christians support religious freedom?

    Model answer

Christians believe faith must be freely chosen to be genuine. Forcing belief on anyone is disrespect for their God-given freedom.

  5. 5

    What is a multi-faith society?

    Model answer

A multi-faith society is one in which people of many different religions live together. The UK is a multi-faith society.

  6. 6

How have Churches responded to a multi-faith society?

    Model answer

Many Churches take part in interfaith dialogue with other religions. Christians work with other faiths on shared concerns such as poverty.
